Purpose This is where you'll come to ask Ms Nichols and your peers questions, communicate about your mathematical ideas and interact with interesting material. Effective communication is an important skill that you will develop throughout your high school career and it will be useful to you regardless of your plans for the future. Over the course of your work on the journals, you will be developing your ability to provide detail, explain your thinking and make connections.
Discussion Forums There are two forums - one is a question and answer forum, where you can post about any math or class related topic, and the other is where you will reply to specific journal prompts.
Your Forum - This is a place where you can ask questions to your peers or Ms. Nichols about homework or general topics. You can also answer questions from your peers.
Weekly Journal Questions - Here you will answer prompts from Ms. Nichols that will be due on a weekly basis. The questions will sometimes be about the content in class, but at other times it will involve responding to interesting questions or materials related to math in general.
Math Pictures and Videos and Interacting with Math These pages are simply a pile of interesting math things that I've collected over the years. You are welcome to take a look through them at any time and we will refer to them specifically in some of our journals. If you come across something that you would like to add, please feel free to share it with me and I will post it on the site.
Blogs As part of this course you will also create a blog using Blogger. It will be up to you whether this is a public blog or one that you choose to share with only a few people. Through the blog, you will reflect on your progress through the course with the focus being on your ability to assess or your strengths and weaknesses.
Ms. Nichols' Blog The final component of this website is my blog. I think that it's very important that I try to model the same behaviour that I expect from you, so I will also be blogging and sharing my reflections with you.
